The club had an arcticle and photos published in the local Yateley Town Crier, so we hope it encourages some new members and guests.

On the weekend of 8th and 9th November some of us will be attending the Ann Brown of Posh Frocks weekend workshop. This is a local event held in the Yateley WI hall. If it is something you are interested in finding out more about, then contact Sandra for details.

We also had our charity evening where everyone made something under the title 'anything goes'. The items all go to our local sponsored charity "The Berkshire MS Therapy Centre" in Reading for them to sell at their Christmas Fair and raise much needed funds for the Centre.

Here are the items made and donated to the cause this month. We always have a competition where everyone at the meeting votes for their favourite, and the winner gets a prize, which is awarded at the Christmas meal.

This year Vee was selected as the winner for the pale green and apricot top with crochet and knitted flower embellishments.

There has been a huge gap in posts due to holidays and because the club did not meet in August, but we are now back on track.

Sandra gave a talk about the charity evening for Octobers Meeting and brought in many patterns and ideas for entries and contributions.
Vee brought along a large pile of past issues of knitting magazines to the club meeting and were eagerly shared between the members.

Competition:
Advanced
1st Valerie who had knitted a huge and very different shag pile rug or wrap in vivid green
2nd Phyllis with a neck warmer

This is pretty amazing and the texture is so good. You really wouldn't think it had been made on a domestic knitting machine. It looks like a cosy rug or a very warm throw.

This is a handy little neck warmer. Just pop it over the head and tuck it into your coat or top and it looks like you have a full size garment on under your outerwear.

Beginners:

For the June meeting we had guests from the Woodley Machine Knitting Club. Each of them told a story about their knitting journey and what had inspired them to create. Each story was accompanied by beautiful pieces of crafted items that were passed around for everyone to inspect and ask questions. Its a great way to extend knowledge and hear about new ways to try texture and combinations of fibres.

Here are some of the items shared with us.

This wonderful design was inspired by a garment being worn in the shopping precinct. The Woodley knitter then went home and designed it.

 

Our monthly club competion was  won by Valerie in the advanced class with the covered basket.

The purple scrunchie was the winning entry for

the beginners section and made by Mandie.

Edgings and braids was the theme this month. Sandra demonstrated a number of different types and gave advice on the yarns and tensions, as well as prevention of curling hems.

April 2014

This month saw Valerie giving a demonstration on using a lace carriage on the brother machine and creating picot edgings. This went on to develop into a great discussion and demonstrations of various lace techniques, transfer lace, fully fashioned, pin tuck lace, thread lace and fine lace.


  

 A challenge was set last month to knit a hat, scarf or cowl for the competition, the following are the entries.
