The invited speaker this month Christine gave a really good demonstration and talk about the gloves she makes and sells for charity.

Gloves made in children and adult sizes

Trying on for fit

The beginners table winner was a pink top designed by Valerie and had very interesting edging detail. Ann made a number of hat and scarf sets for all the family.

The overall winner of the beginners annual competition was Valerie. Although only a knitter for about 2 years she has made so many of her own designs and no longer a beginner for next year.

This months advanced show and tell was won by Sue for the blue shawl. It was from an In-Ex pattern knitted to test out the knitting set up for another member. Marcia was 2nd with the lovely textured purple sweater and the 3rd was a pink sweater by Sandra.

The overall annual winner for advanced knitters was Phyllis with Sandra coming 2nd.

Prizes were awarded and the raffle held.

Valerie showed everyone some more items she had made some using designaknit.
In January the meeting will include the AGM and a talk by Sue about the machine knitters and clubs she visited while in Australia

 Before meeting blog...
Christine Millen a member of the Yateley weekly wednesday morning craft group held at Yateley Village Hall, will be attending this month to give a talk on her machine knitted gloves. Christine is an excellent machine knitter and her expertise very welcome. Just what we need for the chilly weather and in time for last minute Xmas gifts.

The annual show and tell competition concludes this month. Every entry is a valuable contribution and helps to inspire, keep the club active and promote the craft. The final winner is not easily forecast as its usually a close run right up to the last month, so get those entries finished and counted.

October 2012

Knitting for Charity was this months event. The task was to knit any garment suitable for anyone be it for a grown up, infant or toy that included raglan shaping of any technique and design. The garment also had to be suitable for donation for eventual sale so that all proceeds would benefit the chosen charity, the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre in Reading. A prize was awarded for the best entry.

September 2012

Marcia gave a very interesting talk about hats and brought in a selection. Each one was passed around the group and examined for various techniques and yarns used. The textures created and methods of shaping were also discussed.

Some were tried on for size and brought some laughter and a good deal of humour to the evening. Unfortunately the photographer couldn't attend and record the event and show what a fun evening everyone had but did manage to catch up a few weeks later.

August 2012

No meeting during August

July 2012

Phyliss and Joan brought in knitted trousers for everyone to look at with coordinating jackets and tops. Suitable yarn types, amounts, durability, finish and the patterns used were discussed. Their garments were based on Ann Brown's patterns using various strands and plys of acrylic crepe obtained from Uppingham, Yeomans, Undys and Metropolitan.

Importance of individual measurement to obtain correct personal fit and doing the tension square were main points stressed. The knitted fabric was blocked and steamed to pattern. Surpisingly the trousers do not seat or knee at all and after many washes and wears were good as new.
Beginners table of entries and cup. Valerie was voted the winner with the beautiful cowl and Ann knitted the cheerful orange jumper.
Sandra finished her suit at last and Sue showed off her baby shawl and blanket for her expected grandaughter. Voted joint winners!
